REGISTRATION 2020

Registration for the upcoming ski season will be underway soon. Head over to the website here to register for an account on the website if you haven’t already! Watch your email for the opening of registration, planned for the end of September.
Because of COVID-19, the board is hard at work planning the necessary changes to programs and policies for the upcoming ski season (see below)

NOTE: Please be sure that you have re-activated your GKHAT account at gkhat.ca. Without that, you will not be receiving these communications after October.
COVID-19 and the 2020 Season

GKHAT is planning to have the best season possible given the changes that will be necessary to keep our skiers safe and healthy. The board and safety committee have been developing a COVID safety plan, following BC Alpine and BC Government Return to Sport guidelines and with communication with KHMR. Once complete, the plan will be posted on our website. While we are not yet able to finalize all policies and plans, the following changes will likely be in effect:
  • Mini-GKHAT and U6 level skiing will be a half day program throughout the season
  • Highly restricted or no access to the GKHAT yurt for athletes (stay tuned for our outdoor workaround plans)
  • As a result of limited indoor space, cold weather policy will be revised
  • Requirement to sign COVID wavers for all athletes for every day of skiing
  • Changes to the required equipment for athletes during ski days
  • Changes to races and club events (see below)
  • Changes to the nature and frequency of volunteer requirements

COVID-19 Questions

We are looking to field questions and concerns that you may have. While we’re confident a number are related to registration, we would like to ensure that we have a good number of questions answered before registration goes live. So… if you have any questions regarding GKHAT programming and COVID, please send it to use at info@gkhat.ca. We’ll take some time to answer the questions and post a FAQ on the website unless it is specific to you.
GKHAT is pleased to announce that we are building a full sized ski cross course for training and use this year at KHMR.
Course construction is underway this month with a large amount of dirt being moved for our athletes to step up their ski cross skills this winter. Be sure to check out the design layout for the course! Just review this PDF.
Many thanks to our sponsors at CBT and Dogtooth Construction for supporting this amazing project and bringing this dream to fruition!
GKHAT Auction

With registration underway, all members need to get thinking about our upcoming online auction. Donate an item for the auction, or better still, get sponsorship from a company or vendor. Be creative! Any item or service that is ski or non ski related is welcome. If you know of a company that would like to actively sponsor GKHAT, please contact us at Golden and Area to get more information. Follow these links to get an auction letter for info@gkhat.ca or for Calgary and Area to print off and give to businesses you request donations from. If you need a letter for sponsorships, please use this letter.

Do you have questions about the silent auction? Please read our GKHAT auction Q and A here.
Ski Academy News

In other exciting GKHAT news, the Ski Academy program is kicking off in 2020.
This is a program for grade 8 and 9 high school students who want to add weekday ski days and dryland training to their school schedule. Stay tuned for news out of the program as it runs its first season and have a look at the program description on the GKHAT website if your athlete might be interested for the coming season.
Pre-Season Training

This year’s early season training kicks off beginning in November. We may be offering a slightly different format due to COVID this year, but It is available to athletes U10 and older (ages 8 and up). If your athlete is interested in preseason training, please email headcoach@gkhat.ca to sign up
2020 Race Schedule

Typically BC Alpine announces its race schedule in October. At this time, we are anticipating that this may change for 2020, and the possibility that there may be no away races.
As we know more about racing for 2020, we will announce it to the membership.
Home races and all-club events this season will likely follow a different format in order to avoid crowding
GKHAT Sponsorship

Ski racing is an expensive sport and fundraising is a necessity to keep program fees from creeping upwards. If you know of any businesses that would like to see their brand promoted; If you have auction items; If you have any ideas or proposals for fundraising please send an email tofundraising@gkhat.cato get started. We need your ideas and input!
