COVID Information

Our 2020-21 season is going to look very different from what we are used to. There are many factors in BC and Canada that continue to evolve, but we are happy to have the opportunity to provide our athletes with programming this winter. We expect that our plan for 2020-21 will be fluid, and we will make adjustments as required. As part of our ability to open for the season, there are many requirements and protocols that must be followed. We know some of these new rules and protocols change the look of some of our programming, but thank you in advance for your support.

In order to provide programming this winter, we are required to meet the requirements and protocols for risk mitigation of the Government of BC, BC Alpine and KHMR. We are making adjustments to our programs for 2020/21 with the goal of meeting these requirements and ensuring that the sport carries on in a safe manner for athletes, coaches, and parents.

To mitigate risks associated with COVID-19 and meet all of the requirements of our governing organizations, the following protocols will be followed this season:
  1. If you or someone in your household is sick with any symptoms, we ask that you please stay home. If a skier has been in close contact with anyone who has been sick or has traveled outside of Canada in the previous 14 days, they will not be permitted to join their ski group.
  2. As is the case in many other extra curricular activities, all families will be required to fill out a COVID waiver at the start of each day of training. Athletes arriving without a completed waiver for the day will not be permitted to ski with their group.
  3. Please arrive with your skiers ready to ski. Gear up at your vehicle/home, and leave all extra gear in your car.
  4. Due to concerns about access to the day lodge and yurt, athletes need to plan to be self reliant. At this time we are unsure of the manner in which the yurt can be utilized for the season. It is unlikely that the yurt will be available to athletes and families; however, we will be exploring options for outdoor seating and heating. Athletes should arrive with water/snack/lunches, hand/foot warmers, 2-3 extra buffs/face coverings, extra mitts, and hand sanitizer in a small backpack.
  5. We ask that you ensure that your athlete follows proper hand hygiene prior to arriving for training and carries a small hand sanitizer in their pack.
  6. Parents must be on-hill / ensure a contact is in cell service during the GKHAT training day. Should an athlete have any health concerns during the day, coaches must be able to contact a parent for swift pick up.
  7. Please be aware that there may be adjustments to the cold weather policy if our use of common spaces at the resort is limited. Regardless of changes, GKHAT will be more strict in enforcing the policy IF we lack spaces to warm up.
  8. The GKHAT program for Mini's and U6 athletes (all 4 and 5 year olds) will be modified to be half day programs for 202-21 in order to mitigate issues regarding shelter. We certainly do not want the kids to get too cold!
  9. We may be staggering start and end times of our programs to reduce the number of athletes congregating outside the yurt during athlete drop off and pick up.
Some other things still underway are:
  • We are reviewing the parent handbook to ensure that it includes communications and policies regarding COVID.
  • We are reviewing our club events plans to comply with provincial and BC Alpine guidelines. Please stay tuned for more information through the beginning of the season
  • Volunteer requirements are still in place this year, but volunteering may be a little different from previous years. Stay tuned for more as the season gets underway.
