Hello GKHAT Families,
Not so long ago, we were lucky enough to have Eddie the Eagle come visit the Kicking Horse Ski Resort. On top of that, he participated in providing the kids with their awards at the end of our Nancy Greene race event. A good number of kids (and a few adults) took the opportunity to meet and talk with Eddie. It was a great opportunity to learn how Eddie achieved his goals.
This coming weekend, on March 18, you’ll have another chance to learn more from some great skiers. Evidently GKHAT Coach Angela is not only famous for being the awesome skier and coach that we like to have, her legacy is one of great skiers.
On Saturday March 18, at the end of the ski day, drop by the yurt to meet up with Angela’s parents. It will be a great chance to learn their stories and path to becoming a great ski family. Follow this link to check out an article about their before you come out.
Oh yeah… We would like to say congratulations to Angela on their new baby skier as well!
Hello GKHAT families,
Having come off another successful race event which could not have been done without the help of volunteers, we are looking to get a few more folks signed up for the Level 1 officiating course.
GKHAT has the long term goal of hosting official zone races. In order to achieve this goal, we need a volunteers that are trained in running an officiating a ski race. Now is a good time to sign up for this. At no cost to you, we will be able to offer you the Level One Officials Course. We will need at least six participants for this to happen!
On Friday March 17, Mark Shwenk, the BC Alpine Officials Chair, is available to come to Golden to teach this three hour course. We expect to offer this on the afternoon or early evening.
The location for this course has not been finalized. However, it will be help in town on and run for approximately three hours.
Follow this link in order to sign up. Having more volunteers trained in officiating increases the likelihood of achieving our goal of hosting the zone race next season.

Saturday March 11
Our Annual GKHAT Club Championships wrap up race is this Saturday March 11th. New this year is a move to a Dual Slalom format for the event. Single Elimination Dual Ladders will be randomly seeded in each Gender and U category (U6, U8, U10, U12, U14).
This means that athletes will race the dual and the winner will move on to the next round. Since the focus of the day is on , athletes not moving on to the next round in the dual ladder will continue to run the dual in fun heats until the final round of the dual is complete.
In order to make lapping the course quick the dual will be set below Catamount mid-station.
Coaches and tailgunners will circulate the chair with their race day coaching groups. After the first round or two, athletes remaining in the race dual will always jump to the front of the line of the dual course. Those in each age group moving on to the next round will make the next ride up with a designated tailgunner, while the coach and most tailgunners stays with the main group.
We also are encouraging parents to jump in and do some fun heats in the dual either with other parents, with their kids, coaches or anybody they want! Maximize the fun factor!
Also in the spirit of maximizing the fun factor we encourage parents and athletes to . Either don a costume or just decorate your helmet with some fun things. Just make sure costumes are skiing friendly and don’t have dangly parts that may get caught in chairlifts and stuff.

As a further clarification to the March 12 coaching day, there is no GKHAT on Sunday, March 12 for the Development Athletes (this is all the athletes in the regular 12 week program). All these athletes will have their final regular day on snow at the club championship race on March 11th.
We have a bonus weekend offered that you may sign your U8 athlete up for to make up for one of the weekends missed in December. We thank all families in understanding that due to lack of early snow and our need to provide a safe program some of our younger athletes missed out on their 12th day on snow.
Please do register for the U8 make up weekend by following this link.
Pizza Order: In order to ensure that you are able to receive pizza at the banquet, please be sure to submit complete this form and submit your request via the banquet form. All submission must be completed by end of day Tuesday , March 7.
