News and Announcements
We are pumped to say that the ski conditions have improved dramatically and the race season can begin. As a result, we have a few reminders and there are adjustments to the schedule. They are outlined in point form below.
Although we are excited to be kicking off our ski season this weekend, we know this solution is not ideal for everyone with Christmas just around the corner. Historically, we have not made any attempts to adjust our schedule due to conditions or weather.
Please understand that there are a number of complicating factors to consider when trying to reschedule a training weekend. Our coaches and the board are doing their best to provide a make up weekend that should work for most of our skiers.
- Please be sure to complete the waivers. These are CRITICAL and your athlete may not be allowed to ski without its completion. Please review the last reminder for details.
- GKHAT will start its season on December 21-23. The Christmas camp for this weekend will be canceled.
- As a result, there will only be one ski camp (December 28-30).
- Please note that Friday gate training and Minis do NOT start until the new year. They start January 4-6. Please check the calendar for those dates.
- Coach assignment and groups can be found via this link on our home page.
- Another important task is the yurt clean up. Be sure to review your spot on this schedule. If you are unable to make a date, please make an attempt to trade with other parents.
Thank you for your patience. Let’s get out on the snow!
Today, December 12, we have decided that conditions on the lower mountain are not sufficient for any of our athletes to operate safely this weekend.
At this time there is very limited ski-able terrain on the mountain. This leads to a lot of skiers in a small area with marginal conditions which we believe is too big a safety compromise for our athletes.
We apologize for the last minute decision. We were obviously hoping for better news!
We are considering alternate plans for the season. So please do take the time to keep an eye for communications from us.
Sorry for the inconvenience, We always have safety of our skiers as our first concern.
Thanks from your head coach,
This is an opportunity to meet your child’s coach, find out more about the upcoming ski season, and pick up your auction items. There will be an informal social followed by head coach’s presentation so bring the family and your questions.
When and Where: 7 PM, December 8 at the Mount Seven Rec Plex
For more information on the meeting contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
Yes… paperwork sucks. However, injuries and liabilities suck more. As a result, this year you get to fill out even more waivers!
Ok… that wasn’t cool. However, it is true that you MUST have your waivers completed. We are NOT ALLOWED to let your athlete ski with the club on the hill without all waivers completed.
You may even think you’re done… however, RCR gave us a new one. Be sure to complete it. Find it below under “RCR Special Waiver”.
Be sure to complete them all:
- BC Alpine
- RCR with your pass
- RCR special waiver
NEW!!! RCR Special Waiver
You may have already completed the other waivers. This link is a NEW one. Please be sure to complete this for each of your athletes.
Just follow this link and complete it.
BC Alpine Waiver
You should have received an email from BC Alpine to send you a personalized link. If you have not, click here and enter your email address in the green box.
A waiver must be signed for each child registered, PLUS a parent. Please check over your details, and correct them if you need to.
If you are having trouble, please email me email@example.com . Do not postpone contacting me, as it can often be resolved quickly.
If you are not getting the email from BC Alpine, please check your Spam. If it is not there either, please email me to let me know using the email account you wish to be your primary contact point with GKHAT.
In addition to your regular waiver for your Season’s Pass, RCR asks us to sign their Event and Parental Consent Waiver Form. The easiest time to do this is when you sign your Season Pass waivers for them on-line, or when you pick up your season’s pass.
RCR provided us with a document last year. This process still applies (though the images are slightly different). Please follow the link.
Wow that was exciting! If you weren’t following closely the auction ended with some intense bidding right up to the last second. The 1971 Marmot Basin chairlift pulled in an impressive $720.00 and there were serious bidding wars going on for the Yeti Cooler and the ½ day ski clinic with head coach Ryan Ford. There were two silver sponsors (Dog Tooth Construction and Golden Installations Ltd) each donating $1,000 and donations for the special needs program and towards purchasing ski racks for club netting an additional $1000. We’ve been told that at least one of the sponsors will be matched by an employer and we will continue to update you on our sponsorship drive over the next month.
All told the auction brought in $19,502.00. This breaks down as $14,827.00 in bids, $3,000 (so far) in sponsors, and additional $1,675.00 that was donated by GKHAT families in lieu of providing an auction item.
The best way to pay for your item(s) is by sending an e-transfer to our treasurer Mike Burns and our bookkeeper Nicole Sherriff at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also bring cash or a cheque to the parent meeting but an e-transfer is definitely much easier for us.
You can pick up your items at the Parent Meeting on December 8th at the Golden Rec Plex at 7:00 pm. If you are not able or planning to attend the Parent meeting you can make arrangements with email@example.com on how best to collect your item. If you are in Calgary, we can look at getting your item(s) to you after December 9th as some items need to be shuttled to Calgary (and vice versa). We hope to have all items distributed to you by December 17th. Items belonging to GKHAT families that are not picked up will be brought up to the GKHAT Yurt at KHMR in the New Year.
Thank you to all of the GKHAT families, donors, sponsors, and bidders for your generosity.
